Odyssey 2010 - AZT - Part 1

May 2, from the Mexico/US Border to Garden Canyon

Follow the Nimblewill Nomad as he begins his Odyssey 2010, a thru-hike of the Arizona National Scenic Trail. Starting at the Mexico/US Border, the Nomad treks through the desert southwest, pausing to capture video at Montezuma Pass, Canello Hills, and other locations along the trail. He also shares some facts about water sources found on this journey, and then on to Gardner Pass.

Odyssey 2010 - AZT - Part 2

May 8, from desert southwest near Mt. Mica and Interstate 10 to May 13, Oracle Ridge

As the Nimblewill Nomad continues his Odyssey 2010 trek, along the Arizona National Scenic Trail, he pauses near Interstate 10 to reflect on just how many times he has crossed it, in one part of the country or another, during his many years and miles of thru-hiking. He then moves on into the Rincon Mountains, traveling through Sabino Canyon, at the junction of Sabino Canyon Trail, heading toward Romeo Pass, sharing the awe and purity of snow melt run-off at the base of Mt. Lemmon, and then on to Oracle Ridge, along the Oracle Ridge Trail leading into the town of Oracle, where the segment ends.

Odyssey 2010 - AZT - Part 3

May 14, from Oracle to June 2, Flagstaff

The Nimblewill Nomad begins this segment with a little nature study; two instances of Coontail Rattlesnakes, both providing you with an up-close look and sound that's almost like being there yourself. Next he pauses at the White Canyon Passage, north of Kearney, to provide a panoramic sweep of the area, including the Saguaro Cactus in bloom. As the Nomad treks on, through the Tonto National Forest, in the Mazatzal Wilderness, he stops to take a little trip down memory lane, as he photographs a place called Doll Baby Ranch, and narrates a special message to friend and fellow thu-hiker, Dan Sheltowee Rogers. Further down the trail, the Nomad stops to enjoy the cool, clear, delicious water from White Rock Spring, a neat little oasis in the middle of the hot, sun-baked desert. On the Mogollon Rim, the Nomad takes time to record as he walks the trail, just to show everyone the crushed limestone path that has been laid through this area of the trail, and to thank those who were responsible for putting it there. Another panoramic sweep, in the Coconino National Forest, looking toward the San Francisco Peaks, is where this video ends, as he heads on down the trail to Flagstaff.

Odyssey 2010 - AZT - Part 4

June 3, from Flagstaff to June 7, Grand Canyon South Rim

This segment begins with the Nimblewill Nomad attempting to share an Elk spotting with us, after which he pauses to share a spell of “quiet” with us, peaceful, serene, beautiful nature in the Coconino National Forest. As the Nomad moves on down the trail, he gives us the opportunity to hike along for a bit, walking the treadway of the trail with him. Another day, he spends time sharing a sun rise on the Babbitt Ranch, in northern Arizona, reflecting back at the San Francisco Peaks, which are behind him now. Odyssey 2010 - AZT - Part 5

June 8, Grand Canyon National Park - Rim to Rim Thru-Hike

The Nimblewill Nomad does a one-day, approximately 21 mile, trek through the Grand Canyon. Now on the South Kaibab Trail, beginning at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, the Nomad descends 5000 feet down into the canyon, crosses the Colorado River, and ascends the nearly 7000 feet to emerge at the top of the North Rim. This collection of video clips shares some of the breath-taking scenery of that trek, along with a great view of the switchback trails, pack mules, Phantom Ranch, suspension bridges, and sun rise on the canyon walls.

Odyssey 2010 - AZT - Part 6

June 9, from Grand Canyon National Park to June 11, Arizona-Utah State Line

The Nimblewill Nomad pauses briefly to give us a little history about a famous gun slinger, Lester Moore, buried in Arizona, and now the remains have been moved to an above ground crypt, along with others exhumed from the old cemetery. After that, the Nomad pauses on the East Rim of the Grand Canyon to take one last look back at the awe and beauty of such a natural wonder. Then it comes down to the final day, and the final hour, of this marvelous journey ‘oer the Arizona National Scenic Trail. Viewing the Vermillion Peaks, less than three miles from the Arizona-Utah State Line, the Nomad winds down this odyssey, and speaks of the one yet to come in mid-July, as he heads to Montana to begin his thru-hike of the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail.
